Letter of Advice to the Mayor of Yancheng City

Dear Mayor Zhang,

Greetings! I am a high school senior currently studying at Nanjing Foreign Language School, and I am about to pursue my studies in the United States. I was born in Nanjing, and Yancheng is my hometown. My grandparents rest in peace here, my parents grew up here, and many of my cherished memories are tied to this place. I have visited my hometown dozens of times for family visits and social activities, witnessing the rapid development that fills me with pride and hope for an even brighter future for my hometown.

Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to visit my hometown multiple times and conducted in-depth sightseeing and research at Dafeng Elk Nature Reserve and Yellow Sea Wetland Park. With my camera in hand, I captured numerous captivating scenes and, with the support of Mr. He from Yancheng TV, I planned and produced a documentary called “The Legend of the Elk,” which received recognition from professors in the United States. Currently, I am preparing to create a video titled “The Beauty of the Yellow Sea Wetlands,” aiming to showcase the ecological, biological, and cultural beauty of the wetlands.

Mr. Mayor, after the successful UNESCO World Heritage designation of the Yellow Sea Wetlands, it has injected new vitality into the economic and social development of Yancheng. It has become a remarkable calling card for our city and will undoubtedly serve as a powerful driver for Yancheng’s economic and cultural growth.

The development of our hometown is a dream shared by all Yancheng residents. As a student who cares deeply about the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, I may not have the charisma to rally the masses, but I have persistently strived to do my part. I harnessed the power of the internet to establish the “Elk Guardian Threesome” club, widely promoting the concept of harmonious development between humans and nature and attracting more people to join. Today, I am writing to you with three specific suggestions:

  1. I suggest constructing an eco-tourism circuit centered around ecological civilization, connecting places like Jiulongkou, Dazong Lake, the nature reserve, and the wetland park. This circuit should offer a variety of activities for visitors, including sightseeing, experiences, and wellness, allowing them to enjoy the pleasures of dining, shopping, and entertainment.
  2. I recommend launching a global competition for the design of Yancheng’s official mascot. The competition process should be a significant opportunity for expanding influence and tapping into collective wisdom for discovering the beauty of the environment and culture. This will make Yancheng’s calling card even more appealing.
  3. I propose the recognition and material rewards for those who made significant contributions to the UNESCO World Heritage designation. Continued attention to the well-being and life of wetland-affected residents is also crucial, ensuring that they reap the benefits of UNESCO recognition and enjoy a worry-free life.

Mr. Mayor, I understand that you have an incredibly busy schedule, juggling countless responsibilities. My suggestions are but a humble offering for your consideration. I wish you all the best in your work and a joyful life!
